Clay & Slate has expanded its roofing product range with the introduction of Metrotile lightweight steel roof tiles, giving customers more choice when looking for an alternative to traditional clay, concrete and natural slate roofing.
The new range brings together six profiles, including traditional pantile and Roman designs, slate-effect tiles, timber-inspired finishes and contemporary options for modern buildings. Each combines the appearance of familiar roofing materials with the practical benefits of lightweight steel construction.
Manufactured from ZAM coated steel, Metrotile roofing systems offer durability, weather resistance and low maintenance requirements. Their lightweight construction can also help reduce the load placed on a roof structure, making them a useful option for a variety of new-build and refurbishment projects.
A profile for different roofing styles
The Metrotile collection includes six distinct profiles, each offering a different look and set of features.
- Metrotile Bond: Inspired by traditional pantile roofing, Bond combines a familiar profile with lightweight steel construction. Each tile covers approximately eight conventional roof tiles, helping to speed up installation.
- Metrotile Shingle: Recreates the appearance of natural timber shingles, with a hidden fixing system for a clean finish. It can also be used for vertical cladding applications.
- Metrotile Roman: Features the distinctive curves of traditional double Roman tiles, offering a classic roofing style with the benefits of modern steel.
- Metrotile Woodshake: Mimics the texture and shadow lines of natural timber shakes, providing an alternative for projects seeking a more natural appearance without the associated timber maintenance.
- Metrotile Qube: Designed for contemporary architecture, Qube features clean rectangular lines and is available in smooth matt and stone-coated finishes. It also incorporates an acoustic membrane to help reduce rainfall noise and is compatible with the integrated eQube Solar Tile system.
- Metrotile Slate: Replicates the appearance of natural slate, with defined shadow lines and a robust steel construction designed to offer additional resistance to weather, impact and vandalism.
The range is available in a selection of colours and finishes, including Charcoal, Bronze, Terracotta and Spanish Red across selected profiles, with further options depending on the product.
A lightweight alternative to traditional roofing
One of the key advantages of Metrotile is its suitability for projects where reducing roof weight is a priority. The range offers an alternative to heavier roofing materials while retaining either a traditional or contemporary appearance, depending on the profile selected.
Several profiles are suitable for roof pitches as low as 10°, although minimum pitch requirements vary by product. The range also benefits from corrosion-resistant ZAM coated steel, with finishes varying between stone-coated and smooth painted options.
For contractors and specifiers, the combination of lightweight construction, a choice of profiles and matching accessories offers flexibility when planning roofing projects.
